The main causes of stresss vaary greatly from one person to another. As our life becomes more and more hectic, the stresses can take their toll on us. When we are put under pressure our body releases cortisol and adrenaline. These are our 'stress hormones'. The affect on the body is to prepare it for 'fight or flight'. We become more alert, and all our reactions are heightened, to prepare us for running away or fighting a battle. Of course we seldom use the fight or flight reaction nowadays. We stay stuck in between, trying to deal with the pressures that surround us. So, what are the main causes of stress in today’s society?
Money! The recession has hit everyone hard and it is contributing to people losing their homes and their jobs. In today’s economic climate, finances top the poll in all surveys taken about stress and the main causes today.
It is not only the mortgages and rising unemployment that are the causes of financial of stress. Purchasing expensive, but necessary items such as fridges, freezers and boiler repairs top the list of main expenses that the everyday household has to buy, but thanks to economic worries, these add additional stress and pressure in everyday life.
Employment! No surprises, but in the top five factors of stress is work. This is related to finance concerns and the pressure that people are facing to meet their current lifestyle needs and desires.
Not only do we all worry about earning enough money to live, but doing well in the work place and meeting increasingly difficult deadlines is a growing stress that is effecting not only your working life, but that is having a definite impact on your social life.
Family can be one of the main causes of stress. The old saying of “you can’t pick them!” takes on a surprisingly strong meaning in the stress polls.
